It started on Sunday morning at around 11:15. I woke up and I had just found out that the Codex limits were going to reset the next day (around 40 hours remaining) and I still had 100% of my Pro plan usage left. I already had two partially built ideas, a macOS app and a web based app. So I immediately got to building. From that point until around 2 a.m., my laptop was continuously spitting out code. It was raining outside the entire day, I couldn’t really go anywhere, and swimming was off because it was Sunday. Star aligned perfectly for one long building session.
For those 14 hours, I was basically a product manager. I planned features, researched decisions, made the product vision, reviewed the output, and kept redirecting Codex whenever it misunderstood something. Codex was my developer for the day. It was pretty decent too. There were places where it completely fell off and I had to step in, research the problem myself, and figure out what direction to give it next. But in general, it was a damn good guy. Neither product was officially complete by the end of the night, but I had made some very, very good progress, the kind of progress that would usually take me close to a week. At 2 a.m. I finally stopped, wrote down how the day had gone cause I planned to write a blog on this, and went to sleep at around 3.
Then I woke up at 9:30, saw that I had limits left, and it was still raining outside. So bingo I started building again and got up at 2 a.m., 2 more hours than yesterday. Then went to sleep at 3 for the second night in a row. That makes it roughly 30 hours of building inside a stretch of about 40 hours, which sounds cool when I put it like that. I’ve worked for 14 hours in a day before, but never in such a straight line, where almost every waking hour across two days was spent thinking about the same projects and pushing them forward.
These two days were amazing. The products still aren’t completely finished, but I moved them much further than I expected. In last few hours on both days, I started to lokey halucinate from continous screen stare and constant product planning and research. It was one of the most unique weekend for me and I genuinely loved. It was intense, slightly ridiculous, and very fun.
